Pink pepper from a trader who crossed the mountains. The women of her court had prepared the blend in a stone vessel, layering phantom rose over saffron threads, sealing it with dark resins laced in gold.
When they came for her, the room still held the air she left behind. The guaiac wood and royal amber would not leave the walls for three days. The soldiers noticed. They wrote about it in letters home: a presence that clung to stone the way her name would cling to history.
