Juracán
The fishermen of Borikén did not fear the sea. They feared the sky. When the Pleiades disappeared below the horizon in November, the old men read the winds. Bergamot-sharp air before a storm. The charged mineral weight of rain that has not yet fallen. Ozone like a wire pulled taut.
Juracán arrived not with sound but with atmosphere. The air turned electric. Fig leaves twisted silver. Then the wall of wind.
This reconstruction opens the way a hurricane announces itself: with terrible clarity. Bergamot and floralozone (storm ozone). Then the dense heart of crushed fig and black tea. Then battered labdanum, which is what the world becomes after the storm passes and the sun hits wet earth.
